I briefly dated a girl in college who had this interesting trait she would apply when reading books. She would circle the word love every time it made an occurrence. It is not that strange of a practice except for the small but consistent fact that she would always circle the word “love” no matter the possession of the book.
A book from the library? didn’t matter.
loan from a friend? didn’t matter.
A book she was simply perusing in a book store? Still didn’t matter.
After spending any amount of time with her, you began to realize how the circling of “love” in a book was only the physical manifestation of her compassionate orientation. You realized, the longer you spent time with her, how she was circling occurrences in life with a loving gaze. She was one of those “divine noticers.” Those people on the lookout for love, grace, beauty, and salvation in all things. It did not matter where she was, she would find something lovable to gaze at because she practiced it because she had made it a habit to spot and stare at love.
